Meet JR Renocraft

The Road to Renovation

Before starting JR Renocraft, Yan spent several years working in the legal field in Taiwan. It was a very different career from what he does today, but he had always been interested in renovations. In 2014, he decided to make a change and moved to Canada to study Building Renovation Technology at George Brown College.

But the decision to stay in Canada didn't happen overnight. Before starting school, Yan took a bicycle trip from Vancouver to Toronto. Yes, he was crazy enough to do so. A couple of months later, he did it again, this time riding from Toronto to San Jose. Along the way, he was still trying to figure out whether he wanted to stay in Canada or return to Taiwan. Somewhere along the way, he came across a roadside billboard that simply said, “Stay Canada.”

He took it as a sign. He stayed.

After graduating, Yan began working in the renovation industry and eventually started JR Renocraft. Over the years, he has worked on homes throughout the GTA and helped homeowners make their spaces more functional, comfortable, and suited to the way they live. What he enjoys most is seeing a project come together, from the first conversation to the finished space. He likes figuring out how things can be done properly, working through the details, and seeing the difference a renovation can make to a home.

That's also how we approach our work today. We listen first, talk through what makes sense for the space and budget, and stay involved throughout the project. Whether it's a small bathroom update or a larger renovation, we treat every home like our own.

When he's not working, Yan likes spending time with his little boss, his four-year-old daughter. His favourite way to spend a day off is sitting on the floor building LEGO together.
